Romans 8:1

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1, NLT)

Guilt is knowing you’ve done something wrong.  Condemnation is knowing you’re going to pay for it.  People will do a lot to avoid guilt, but they will do just about anything to avoid condemnation.

Nobody wants to be responsible for something horrible.  We try to overlook, cover up, dress up, trivialize, or destroy the evidence.  But we have a sinking feeling the evidence is still out there, coming after us, ready to expose us, eager to drag us away.

There is no way a good judge would look at the evidence and say to us, “You’re innocent.  Go free!”

But there is a way a good judge could look at the evidence and say to us, “You’re guilty.  Go free!”

That way is Jesus Christ.

Anyone who belongs to Jesus has no condemnation waiting for them at the end of a judge’s gavel, no matter what they have done.

And it’s totally fair!

How can such a thing be?

Jesus suffered and died for our crimes.  And He destroyed our condemnation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (The Verdict is a skit about this marvel.)

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1, NLT)
