Father Cesare

Father Cesare reaches into a car and picks up a small woman.  A group of men surround them as he hands the woman off to another man, giving instructions in Italian.

The woman is fleeing from sex trafficking.  She is ‘owned’ and trying to run away from her ‘owner’.  Father Cesare is giving directions for his helpers to take her to Regina Pacis, where she’ll be protected behind a high security fence in a mission with bars on the windows where no one who ‘owns’ a human can get in.  She can stay there until she is able to begin a new life.

What is the difference between Father Cesare and most of the rest of us who follow Christ?

Only that he does not leave his armor in a closet or on museum display.

When talking about the dangers of his job, this is what he said,

“This is not a problem really, you do it with serenity and you do it with great conviction.

“These women must be protected–they must be helped.  For these women, you must give your life.  They must be hidden from the criminals.  They have felt a long-period of suffering.  Hence to risk your life–especially for a priest–is almost like a duty. I have nothing to lose but life, and life is a gift of God.

When talking about why he would go to such trouble for such a difficult cause, he said,

“I am a man of hope.  I am a man that does not accept defeat.  I do not accept the suffering of other people.”

–Padre Cesare, Founder of Regina Pacis, from DVD Not For Sale

Knights in shining armor didn’t die out in the Medieval Ages.

Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore,

with truth like a belt around your waist,

righteousness like armor on your chest,

and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.

In every situation take the shield of faith,

and with it you will be able to extinguish

the flaming arrows of the evil one.

    Take the helmet of salvation,

and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word.

(Ephesians 6:10-17, HCSB)
