The sheep the Shepherd died for

My thought was, The sheep is so stupid.  The sheep is an idiot.

The sheep goes off and gets itself lost.  Then it just stands there, stupidly, as if waiting to be eaten.

Then the shepherd looks for the sheep.  The shepherd follows the sheep on its worthless path through the wastelands.

Then the shepherd finds the sheep.

He sees the sheep, and he calls to the sheep.

But the sheep just stands there.

It’s like, How dumb can this sheep be?

But the sheep just stands there.

The shepherd approaches the sheep.  He keeps calling to the sheep.

But the sheep just stands there.

The shepherd keeps closing the gap between himself and the sheep.  He keeps calling to the sheep.

But the sheep just stands there, as if to say, No, I want to be left out here to be eaten by wolves.

The sheep just stands there.

And stands there.

The shepherd reaches the sheep, wraps his arm around the sheep, pets the sheep.

The sheep just stands there.

The shepherd begins to woo the sheep back to the safety of the sheepfold.

The sheep follows–reluctantly, as if to say, But I’m missing getting eaten by the wolves.

The shepherd leads the sheep out of the enemy wilderness.

But then the sheep stops.  It just stands there.

The shepherd again encourages the sheep to come along.

The sheep follows–slowly.

(I am that sheep.)

Any time I am walking with God in His pastures, it is not a speck to my credit.

It is a total testament to the Shepherd’s love.

“What do you think? If a man has 100 sheep, and one of them goes astray, won’t he leave the 99 on the hillside and go and search for the stray?” (Jesus, quoted in Matthew 18:12, HCSB)

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (Jesus, quoted in John 10:11, HCSB)
