Day 16: Goin’ fishin’

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Mark 1:17, NIV)

You might not be the outdoors type.  I certainly am no hunter, hiker, or camper.  “Roughing it” to me is staying in a hotel–not staying on the side of a mountain, or in the middle of a forest, tundra, or desert.

But we are all called to fish.

Fishing could mean talking to your coworkers about Christ–the next time you see them.  Fishing could mean leading a small Bible study group in your home or a nearby coffee shop.  Fishing could mean calling up an old friend and asking how life’s going for them.  Fishing could mean a visit to a hospital, a prison, a college campus, a kindergarten class, or a homeless shelter.  Fishing could mean saying more than which car is yours when you talk to the gas station attendant, or answering more than whether you want paper or plastic when you talk to the grocer.  Fishing could mean more conversation than whether you want a lollipop for your kid or a biscuit for your dog when you talk to the bank teller, or more dialogue than whether you want fries with that when you’re in the drive-thru lane.

Bhuvaneshwari lives in Maduarai Tamil Nadu. She is in 4th Grade. Her father has HIV. Through Fishhook International, you can help her (or another child), receive the help they need physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

You never know just where God will have you fish.  It could be Hardees’.  Or it could be Kenya.  It could be Conoco.  Or it could be Peru.  You just never know about God.  He sees everything and knows everything; He wants everyone to come to a saving relationship with Him, and He knows exactly where He wants you and when He wants you there.

Today’s mission is like any mission that follows the heartbeat of Christ: it’s a fishin’ mission.
