orc to elf

I was reflecting this morning on 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (ESV)

We are a new creation . . like an orc from Lord of the Rings changing back into elf, as the race originally was.  The new creation isn’t something we can bring about . . we can’t change ourselves from orc to elf . . But God gives us the gift of sanctification.  Our behaviors reflect that of an elf rather than an orc as we are sanctified and grow in Him.  Sanctification is made possible by the belief that justification has happened . . Sanctification is the natural requirement to show we understand what God has done for us and to ready ourselves for Heaven . .

Ben’s Response:

That’s beautiful.  At salvation we are transformed from orc to elf, but we still habitually act orcish.  Through sanctification, we learn to live as elves and demonstrate both gratitude and commitment.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (ESV)
