Ten Things to Do While You’re Sick

You may not be as productive as other times, but you can still do some things that count!  Use the following suggestions if they help.  Some of them will depend on how sick you’re feeling.

Sick Woman. Flu. Woman Caught Cold. Sneezing into Tissue

  1. Listen to Christian audiobooks or download to your smartphone.  (Try 3:16 by Max Lucado and Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.)
  2. Watch a DVD or online Bible series.  (Try Modern Parables by Compass or, online for free You’ll Get Through This by Max Lucado).
  3. Write emails to friends or write an online letter to a child you sponsor through Compassion.
  4. Watch Christian apologetics, movies, or documentaries.  (Try Answers in Genesis’ apologetics resources, Bringing Up Bobby the movie, or free documentaries on the Bible.)
  5. Snack on foods and drinks that can help you get better, like Gatoraid (electrolytes), pineapple juice (for nausea), and soups, juices, and Jellos (hydration).
  6. Try Sea-Bands for nausea, sold at drugstores.
  7. Schedule a special date or get-together with your spouse, family, or friends for after you get to feeling better.
  8. Journal about your time being sick, anything God has been teaching you.
  9. Reflect on a single Scripture verse, or read a book of the Bible.
  10. Make a prayer list either mentally, on your phone, in your planner, or in a journal.  Pray for people who are hurting and in need as you don’t feel your best.

Remember, take it easy!  Don’t try to work from home when you’re really ill.  This could cause you to be sick for longer or to require a doctor’s care.  Check with your doctor with any concerns you have, and treat your body like you’re special (because you are to God!).  Even when you get to feeling better, be careful to rest as much as possible for a few days or weeks after, depending on how sick you’ve been.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)
